Jawai (Jawai Bandh, and known to safari-goers as Bera) lies in the Aravalli foothills of Pali district, Rajasthan, roughly midway between Udaipur and Jodhpur. There is no airport or major railway junction in Jawai itself, so most travellers fly or take a train to one of the two nearby cities and drive in, or come overland from Ahmedabad.
This guide covers all three options — by road, by train and by air — with distances and drive times, plus the nearest railheads. For planning the trip itself, see our Jawai leopard safari guide and the best time to visit Jawai.
By road
Most visitors reach Jawai by road, and the drive through the Aravalli countryside is scenic. From Udaipur it is about 160 km (3 hours) on good highway — the most popular approach, often paired with Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur. From Jodhpur it is roughly 150 to 180 km (3 to 4 hours) via Pali and Sumerpur.
From Ahmedabad, Jawai is about 340 km (6 to 7 hours) via the NH62 / Sirohi route. Taxis are easy to arrange from Udaipur or Jodhpur airports and railway stations, and most camps can organise a pick-up. If self-driving, the roads are generally well surfaced up to Jawai Bandh, with the final village tracks to your camp being rougher.
By air
There is no airport at Jawai, so you fly into one of two nearby cities. Maharana Pratap Airport, Udaipur is about 150 to 165 km (around 3 hours) by road and is the more popular choice, with wider connectivity. Jodhpur Airport is about 170 to 180 km (3 to 4 hours) away.
Both airports have flights from Delhi, Mumbai and other metros. For international visitors or those wanting more frequencies, the larger hubs are Ahmedabad (about 340 km) and Jaipur, from where you can drive or take a train onward to Jawai Bandh.
By train
Jawai is on the Ahmedabad to Jodhpur broad-gauge line, so the train is a comfortable option. The closest halt is the small Mori Bera (MOI) station, only about 4 km from the Bera safari area, though it sees limited services. The main railhead is Jawai Bandh (JWB), about 12 to 15 km out, which is well connected with trains from Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Jaipur and Delhi.
Falna (FA), around 30 to 35 km away, is the larger junction with the most express and superfast services, and is a reliable fallback if direct trains to Jawai Bandh do not suit your schedule. From any of these stations, your camp can arrange a pick-up, or taxis are available at the station.

Getting around once you arrive
Jawai is rural and spread out, so there is little in the way of public transport at your destination. The practical way to get around is your camp's vehicle and safari gypsies, or a hired taxi for the day. The granite hills, Jawai dam and Rabari villages are all reached on open 4x4 drives rather than on foot.
Plan to base yourself at a single camp and let it handle transfers and safaris. If you are combining Jawai with Kumbhalgarh, Ranakpur or Udaipur, a private car with a driver for the whole loop is the smoothest option. See our places to visit in Jawai guide for what to fit in.
